U.S.S. Gryphon Position Descriptions

Chief Advisor:

   Holds the rank of Vice Admiral or higher. the Chief Advisor helps out the crew of the Starship they are serving on, and will answer any questions regarding ship operations or Starfleet. the Chief advisor is normally someone who has extensive experience with the design of ship they are serving on, often having headed the design process of vital systems and having served as a Captain in the field. If Starfleet can not be contacted the Chief Advisor may make decisions based on Starfleet's regulations. In a Battle Situation the Chief Advisor reports to the bridge but does not take command unless both Captain and Commander are incapacitated.

Advisor:

   The Advisor, who holds a rank of Rear Admiral or higher, handles any questions the crew may have about the operation of the ship or Starfleet guidelines. the Advisor normally has extensive experience with the ship design they are serving on, having assisted with the design of the ship, along with having served as a Captain in the field. In emergency situations, the Advisor reports to Engineering to assist there, though the Advisor may take command of the ship if the Captain and First Officer and Chief Advisor have been incapacitated or are absent.

Academy Liaison:

   Holds the rank of vice-admiral or higher and must have combat experience and command experience this person is in command of the cadets aboard the ship. the Teacher trains the cadets along with the division heads and then gives them their commission and assigns them to the ship after they have passed the final exam. the shipboard teacher must have extensive knowledge of the ship and its systems. the ship board teacher also re-trains the officers and division heads every year. the Academy Liaison has all the privileges that the Dean of the academy has Holds the rank of vice-admiral or higher and must have combat experience and command experience this person is in command of the cadets aboard the ship. the Liaison trains the cadets along with the division heads and then gives them their commission and assigns them to the ship after they have passed the final exam. the shipboard Liaison must have extensive knowledge of the ship and its systems. the ship board teacher also re-trains the officers and division heads every year.

Captain:

   The Captain of a ship is the head of the ship's command structure. the Captain is responsible for the final decisions about all shipboard matters. the Captain must have extensive command experience, as well as diplomatic skill. When on long range missions, the Captain will often have to function for long periods of time without contact from Starfleet command, and thus must act as they see fit, while following Starfleet guidelines. the Captain speaks at all important shipboard functions, such as marriages and funerals.

Commander:

   The First or Executive Officer, or X/O, is second in command of the ship. the X/O assumes command if the captain is off the bridge or incapacitated. Often called "Number One" by the captain, the X/O leads away missions off of the ship. the First Officer receives reports from all department heads on the ship and reports to the captain. the First officer also deals with crew reviews and promotions, though any promotions must be approved by the captain.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO):

   Chief Medical officer on board the ship. they are also the personal doctor to the senior staff. they perform or oversee all major surgical procedures. the CMO also oversees all science affairs as the head for the science and medical departments on board the ship. the CMO has the power to remove members of the crew from duty if they are medically unfit to serve.

Chief Engineer:

   The Chief Engineer is the head of the engineering department on the ship. the Chief Engineer is responsible for the operation of the warp core and all shipboard systems. they are the Head of the Engineering Department on the ship. the Chief Engineer is the only engineer with he power to eject the warp core by themselves.

Counselor:

   The Counselor is responsible for the mental well-being of the crew. though not necessarily qualified to be a bridge officer, the Counselor may assume a position on the bridge to advise the Captain or First Officer. the Counselor is part of the Medical Science Department, but attends Senior Officer's meetings along with the CMO.

Security/Tactical:

   The Security Chief on board the ship, they man the Tactical station on the bridge. the Tactical station deals with weapons and shields for the ship as well as communications. the security officer acts as personal security officer to the Captain and the Executive Officer.

Helmsman:

   The Helmsman mans the Conn station on the bridge. the Conn involves plotting the ship's courses entering the course, and monitoring the ship's current position. the Helmsman also pilots the ship manually when warranted.

Operations Officer:

   The Operations Officer mans the Ops station on the bridge. the Ops Officer runs scans of all types, and also controls the power systems from the bridge. the Ops Officer reports on the conditions of the ship, with the exceptions of shielding when there is a battle situation, when that duty falls to the Tactical Officer. the Ops officer can control most of the ship's systems from their station, should the need arise.

Transporter Chief:

   The Transporter Chief is stationed in a Transporter Room, from where they operate all aspects of transporting. the transporter is used to move people and objects over large distances instantaneously. Any dangerous or difficult transporting, or "beaming" is overseen by the Chief. the Transporter Chief will usually have a background in Engineering, they may need to effect repairs on the transporter. the Chief is required to be able to remain calm and responsive in a crisis, when they may be called upon to perform delicate and complex procedures.
